CollectingCollectables.com are selling this extremely rare Huntley and Palmers Boy
Scout Water Bottle novelty biscuit advertising tin, which was produced in 1915 and
represents one of the earliest pieces of Scouting memorabilia – the movement started
by Robert Baden-
The tin is in the shape of a boy scout's water bottle with a brown background and rope and horn illustration. The Scout's Water Bottle tin was issued at Christmas 1915
This tin was one of the few new designs to be produced during the First World War. The shortage of labour and ingredients meant that production of fancy tins was drastically reduced from 580,000 in 1913 to just 200,000 in 1915. Huntley & Palmers were also given a contract to supply the army with biscuits, thereby directing their attentions away from tin production.
The tin exhibits old scratches and marks, but is still extremely attractive and presentable
